The Nightingale and the Rose was a very intriguing story that follows the theme of love. It shows how one life would sacrifice itself to make another one happy. I don`t understand why people take this story destined for children. The nightingale was a symbol of devotion, virtue and goodness. The meaning and the way that love and sacrifice is portrayed in it is way too advanced and graphic for children. The things that I loved in this short story were how the animals and plants were portrayed. Oscar Wilde used metaphors and personification in his story to make it feel more alive and meaningful.

At the begining of the story, I thought that the student was really in love, that he would do anything just to be with the professor`s daughter, even the nightingale tought that, but it was all just a lie and the poor bird didn`t realize that in time, she was already dead. The scholar did not feel real love towards the girl, in my opinion, it was just a crush. So the nightingale sacrificed her life for nothing, her love and devotion just went into the gutter and crushed by a cart-weel, just like the rose. The sholar and the girl did not know the true meaning of love. Ì`m saying that because if the student really did love the girl, he would not surrender like that and he would not say that love does not prove anything. By saying that you can clearly see that he did not feel love towards the professor`s daughter. The girl in the other hand is a materialist, she does not care about love she just want to be spoiled. Overall I really liked the story.

Student Profile : Dave

Last week, in my english class I met this great guy, his name is Dave. We talked a little bit about ourselves and learned a lot about each others. We talked about our GAINS, G for goals, A for achievements, I for interests, N for network and S for skills. I have learned about 3 of his goals, his short, mid and long term goals.

His short term goal is to make supper tonight, yes I know pretty funny. His mid term goal is to finish his novel, I was pretty surprise when he said that he was writting a book, because at our age, we don't really like writting espacially writting novels. That shows that he is pretty unique. His long term goal is to finish his studies. His achievements is that he created a spagetti sauce, I really would like to taste it. He was able to write a novel, that's a pretty big achievement I think, and he is a good model for his little brothers and sisters.

Now lets talk about his interests, well he likes to write, that's for sure. He also likes to read. His networks are his brothers and sisters, mom and dad. His skills are writting, making food and drawing. That's about all I know about him.
